Permalink Reply by Francis Novoa on January 20, 2012 at 12:10pm Great call E. I, for one, am down to pay a little more for the convenience of doing this at home -or - The Rowdies Marketing staff should create an app for this said purpose. (HINT)

Just wondering if Rowdies want more attendance why can't you buy tickets online and print them?
Seriously considering trying to get down to P.R. for the first game of the season. There are quite a few flights out of Orlando. Anyone else considering it? If so, Charles do you think the team could help us out re: tickets, etc. Thanks
Permalink Reply by Francis Novoa on January 20, 2012 at 1:33pm I go every season since the Rowdies have existed. Jetblue, southwest and USAir always have the cheaper rates. You fly directly in to San Juan Inter. then cab it to Bayamon to JRL. (In my case I walk there b/c my grandparents live 4 miles away). You could also take the train as well, and the majority of the people on the island speak english. Hotels are at a premium depending on when you go to PR.
My experience(s) with the Orange Stars Ultras have always been positive. Very warm and receptive. I sat with them once and they have some pretty good chants. Good times indeed.
JRL is a decent facility. The pitch leaves a lot to be desired however.

Permalink Reply by Charles Cole on January 20, 2012 at 1:47pm I don't think we'd get any help travelling to PR from the team, no. :(
Regarding the 1 p.m. kickoffs, I believe some teams in MLS are experimenting with a midweek afternoon game this season, see if they can get a similar draw as summertime afternoon baseball does.
As for doing it in April, maybe the Strikers are having a game where they invite a ton of local schools to attend and goose attendance that way? I remember in the PDL last season Portland and Kitsap did that at Jeld-Wen Field with a U.S. Open Cup berth on the line and drew a strong crowd, 4,000+.
Permalink Reply by Charles Cole on January 20, 2012 at 3:22pm Honestly, we aren't MLS and if they don't have some kind of gimmick planned then this is a terrible scheduling idea. Even if they do have a gimmick in mind, it looks like a bad idea. Selling tickets in minor league soccer is hard enough under the best conditions.
Permalink Reply by Jared Selph on January 31, 2012 at 7:01pm Hey, we had nothing to do with that! :-) You're right, better them than us.
I just can't wrap my head around the reason for scheduling a game at 1 p.m. on a weekday. Even in places where soccer/football is the dominant spectator sport, it's rare for weekday games to be played in the middle of the day. I can only guess, like others have done, that it's some kind of promotion for the local schoolchildren. Sucks for the hardcore fans who come to every game, buy the merchandise and support the team.

That scheduling looks like the work of the Swindell Road Boys Jared. Lol.
But dang, a 1pm game. Bummer for their "fans". Better them than us.
Permalink Reply by Jared Selph on February 6, 2012 at 6:20pm Since a couple of us were talking about trying to do a road trip to Carolina this year, I thought I'd throw this out there and see if anyone is interested. It's a long way off, but Charleston Battery are playing at home on Friday, Aug. 3, the day before our first road game in Carolina. They have a stadium and pub that a lot of people rave about, so if anyone wants to, we could leave Friday morning, go see the Charleston game and then drive on to Cary for the game on Saturday. Just an idea.

Permalink Reply by Charles Cole on February 6, 2012 at 6:40pm ooh that is interesting. We'll have to talk about this and see what people think.
Permalink Reply by Francis Novoa on February 7, 2012 at 11:40am Great Idea Jared!
I was planning on doing this myself with my father, brother and uncle in my car. We can all get a caravan and travel together if we all want to do this.
Permalink Reply by BayVol on February 7, 2012 at 6:46pm Booked for P.R. for the opening game. Can't wait to spend some amazing time in San Juan and catch our Rowdies!
